KNX Association was founded in 1999 and represents the merger of three European associations active in old buildings and smart homes (BCI, EIB and EHSA).
KNX Association is to:
* Setting standards and quality control;
* Establish a technical support for manufacturers developing products compatible KNX;
* Offer training facilities for training institutes;
* Continue the development of unique software design and commissioning ETS
At its inception, it consisted of nine members, while over 200 are part of today. These include ABB, Jung, Merten, Hager Siemens, Schneider, Zennio … The list of members is also possible at the following address: www.knx.org.
In late 2003, the KNX standard was approved by CENELEC (European Committee of Electrotechnical Standardization) as “Electronic System for Domestic Homes and Buildings (HBES)” as part of the series EN 50090.
Architecture of an installation
The power circuit is supplied with 230v / 50 Hz control circuit is in turn composed of a twisted pair (TP: Twisted Pair) or by a radio link (RF: radio frequency) or infrared (IR: InfraRed ). The data transmission can also be done by carrier current on the power circuit (PL: Power Line).i
Each component connected to the bus has its own independence and is capable of transmitting and / or receive messages.
Technology EIB / KNX can be divided into two main layers:
* Layer BCU (Bus Coupler Unit): The manufacturer shall provide the interface that will link the proper functions of the product and the standard system EIB. This component, developed according to the normalization in place, must go through testing centers and certification before they can be labeled PIC which ensures compatibility of the product.
* Layer PIC: standardized communication system, wired or wireless, which allows all components to connect them and understand. In the case of a cable installation, EIB technology uses a twisted pair that can walk with cables “high current” without any disturbance. You can use a cable with 0.8 mm son to limit the line voltage drops. If using a standard cable U72 1x4x0, 8 unused pair serves as a reserve.
The control bus is a system with distributed intelligence. It requires no computer control or centralized controller. Contacting each point connected to the bus has its own microprocessor that manages communication over the network and is capable of sending or receiving messages. The EIB bus must be powered with a voltage rating of 29V. Most of the components directly to extort bus, the energy required for their operation.
BCU layer is the universal electronic part that manages communication over a network EIB (encoding and decoding information). It has a microprocessor and a memory for storing the program for the product that will be attached (switch, sensor, probe, etc …). This program is provided by the product manufacturer, as “translated” the duties of the PIC product messages understood by all other components connected to the installation.

Security: To provide users of a building a maximum security, the system must react quickly and intelligently installed critical situations, the owner is present or absent.
